Gobert Canyon is quite sporty and technical due to its sequence and number of cascading rappels. Located in the heart of Cilaos, it allows a gentle introduction to water and vertical terrain. It consists of 8 rappels (including one of 35 m), a few jumps and a slide. This canyon is recommended during the rainy season and for people with some height apprehension.

More information
The first section of this canyon is also called Mini Gobert. Easy to access, with moderate height and a progressive sequence of rappels, it still remains technical because the waterfall rappels must be done on your feet rather than as slide-rappels.
The parking area is 2 bends after the start of the trail to Mafate via the Taïbit pass. You gear up at the parking area and reach the canyon after 2 minutes of walking for the briefing at the first rappel. Depending on the flow and your preference, the rappels can be done in the active water or, more easily, outside the waterfall for the first 2 rappels of 15 m and 20 m.
Then comes a compulsory 23 m rappel in the active flow, followed by a beautiful long 22 m aquatic slide-rappel. Depending on recent cyclone conditions, it may be possible to climb the left bank and repeat an optional 7 to 8 m jump.
Depending on the time, we may picnic before continuing on the full route. This section starts with a slide that can be repeated and a 15 m rappel. Depending on the season, cyclone impact and pool depth, the route then continues either with an optional 3 to 5 m jump or with a short rappel. We then reach the key section of the canyon: a big 35 m rappel in the active flow, or not, depending on the mood. Guaranteed thrills!
After a short 15 m rappel and 15 minutes of walking in the jungle, we pick up the GR trail to the magnificent Bras rouge "Champs Elysées". There, depending on the year, a 6 to 8 m jump may be possible and repeatable.
The return to the cars takes 35 minutes following the GR trail
